- <p> A recent poll indicates that a growing number of people
- believe America's economy is improving while the prospect of
- Japanese dominance is waning. The survey, conducted by the New
- York Times, CBS News and the Tokyo Broadcasting System, found
- that 45% of the 1,333 American respondents felt the U.S. will be
- the main economic power of the 21st century. That is a 50%
- increase from a similar poll taken last year. The Japanese were
- not as optimistic: 71% of the 1,357 citizens contacted viewed the
- state of their economy as "fairly" or "very" bad.
