  18. </p>
  19. <p>     A recent poll indicates that a growing number of people
  20. believe America's economy is improving while the prospect of
  21. Japanese dominance is waning. The survey, conducted by the New
  22. York Times, CBS News and the Tokyo Broadcasting System, found
  23. that 45% of the 1,333 American respondents felt the U.S. will be
  24. the main economic power of the 21st century. That is a 50%
  25. increase from a similar poll taken last year. The Japanese were
  26. not as optimistic: 71% of the 1,357 citizens contacted viewed the
  27. state of their economy as "fairly" or "very" bad.
